Carol Lukehart
2025 Beneficiary
Carol Lukehart has been a lifelong resident of the area she proudly calls home. She and her husband, Monty, raised their two children, Shaylin (Mitchell, Liam) and Kemper (Elly), in this same close-knit community. Carol has always felt deeply rooted here, surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors who truly care for one another.

In April 2024, Carol experienced a couple of dizzy spells that led her to the emergency room. What started as a routine visit quickly took an unexpected turn.

Doctors discovered a brain tumor during a CT scan. She was soon diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Carol and Monty chose to begin treatment in Iowa City, where she underwent brain surgery to confirm the diagnosis, followed by six weeks of radiation and multiple rounds of chemotherapy.

In early 2025, the tumor shifted slightly, causing a significant loss of mobility in her right leg. This development has been one of the most difficult parts of her journey, both physically and emotionally. In March, she began a new treatment plan that includes two weeks of targeted radiation and ongoing immunotherapy infusions every three weeks. While the timeline is uncertain, Carol remains hopeful and continues to pray for improvement.

Being selected as the 2025 SOTW beneficiary brought a flood of emotions to Carol and her family. From deep gratitude to disbelief, they were overwhelmed by the love and support shown by their community. While this past year has brought many firsts and unexpected challenges, Carol also reflects on the blessings that have been woven throughout the experience. The SOTW event stands out as a powerful reminder of the kindness, generosity, and compassion that define this community.

“My family and I would like to personally thank the SOTW Committee, volunteers, BBQ teams, and all the attendees for supporting this event and those like it. You have no idea how much this means to us! Thank you again, and God bless.”-Carol, Monty, and Family
