EJ Tompkins is the 7-year-old son of Mason and Bailey Tompkins and the proud big brother to Nash, 6, and Suede, 2. An active, funny, and adventurous kid, EJ loves golfing, hunting, fishing, and spending every chance he gets outdoors with his family.

Earlier this year, EJ's life changed forever after a tragic accident that resulted in the loss of his lower leg. What followed was a journey no child should ever have to face. Through surgery, hospitalization, and countless difficult days, EJ has met every challenge with incredible courage. Even while recovering in the hospital, he never lost his sense of humor, finding ways to make his family laugh during some of their darkest moments.

Since returning home, EJ has amazed everyone with his determination. He quickly learned to get around using a wheelchair, walker, or what he proudly calls a "bum shuffle," and less than two weeks after surgery, he was back at school for half days. Today, one of the hardest parts of his recovery is the daily dressing changes as his residual limb heals, a process that is both physically painful and emotionally challenging.

Once his wound has fully healed, EJ will begin the process of being fitted for his first prosthetic leg. As he grows, he will need new prosthetics approximately every six months, along with ongoing physical therapy and regular orthopedic care. While insurance is expected to cover a basic prosthetic, specialty prosthetics, including a running blade that would allow him to run and play more freely, will likely not be covered.
